Dental Crowns

Our Pickering dentists use dental crowns to cover and protect damaged teeth.

What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is hollow, artificial tooth that your dentist places over an entire damaged tooth to help repair and protect it. Generally made from materials like porcelain or composite, they look and work like natural teeth.

Uses For Dental Crowns

Dental crowns fully cover the entire visible part of a tooth. There are a number of situations in which your dentist may use one, including:

  • To protect weak teeth from breaking
  • To hold together and repair an already broken tooth
  • To cover a tooth after another dental procedure, like a root canal
  • To cover crooked or discoloured teeth

Cosmetic Applications

Your dentist may also recommend a dental crown for aesthetic reasons.

If a discoloured tooth needs to be lightened to match the appearance of surrounding natural teeth, a dental crown may be an option.

Your dentist may also use a crown alongside other cosmetic dental procedures to hold a dental bridge in place or to cover a dental implant
