At Pickering Smiles, our dentists perform bone grafting and sinus lift procedures to prepare for a future dental implant surgery.
Bone grafting is a procedure where your dentists adds bone tissue to your jaw bone, so that it is strong enough to support a dental implant. Most often your dentist will use a synthetic bone material, or sometimes, bone tissue from another part of the body.
If your jaw bone is too thin or too soft to support a dental implant a bone graft may be necessary.
After the bone graft procedure, you will need to wait a few months before having the dental implant surgery. This will give the bone graft time to heal and grow new, strong bone to support the implant.
A sinus lift is a type of bone graft where your dentist adds bone material to your upper back jaw to prepare your mouth for a dental implant.
Because the upper back jaw is a difficult area to place an implant, a sinus lift helps to raise and increase the amount of bone in the sinus area so that an implant can be placed.
